iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone
(Most apps are supported on *all* three of the above devices, unless otherwise specified)
Here's some Apple apps that I have on my device that I find useful.
Most of them are free.
Will add as I go along, and contributions to this thread are welcome:
Twitter, Facebook, MSN Messenger, Skype
Here's a scenario: You're travelling, there's no wireless signal and therefore iPhone Maps does not work.
Want your map to be saved on your iPhone/iPod so that you can bring it along with you in the future?
Not only is this a mapping application; it also lets you download the map tiles for future viewing.
You've seen this in your dad's toolbox. It's a virtual spirit level tool - carpenters use it to measure whether a surface is truly level, or slanted compared to the horizon. This tool is now available on the iPhone/iPod and it works just like the real thing.
Notes: The full version adds more measurement tools, such as a spirit level that measures X, Y and even Z axis. Includes a protractor too, and more
Bored of the built-in iPhone/iPod touch clock? Need a really loud alarm clock? How about a laptimer? This is the app for you. I give it 2 thumbs up for the stunning and realistic clock designs. Also displays current weather for the city that you're in.
Price: Free (only one clock design)
Notes: The full version ($0.99) includes many more clock designs.
Office-squared Plus lets you view MS Office files (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and PDF files as well
Notes: The full version ($5.99) lets you view, and also edit MS Office files.
Are you an organized person that always jots down daily tasks on notepad but forgets to do them afterwards? Get organized with SeizeTheDay electronic task organizer. You type out the tasks that you wan to do, when the task is due (date), and you can even choose when you would like this app to alert you when the due date is near.
The Media Players
VLC Player (for iOS)
NOTE: Due to conflict of interest between the person that developed this app, and the Apple App Store guidelines, this application is no longer available online.
The world's most popular play-any-kind-of-video-format media player now comes to the iPhone and iPod touch. Got a video that your iPhone/iPod refuses to play? This is your answer!
Streams your own media to your i-Device. In other words it pulls off videos from your favorite computer, and lets you watch it on your iPhone/iPod Touch.
Browse all your chosen forums (including SBF) into one screen. It's super fast.
Not only that, this app is good for those that can't view your favorite Forum or Discussion Board on your phone's internet browser.
Find My iPhone
Does what it says. Your iPhone can report its location back to you if you've lost it (via MobileMe). Also gives you the option to remotely display a message to someone who happens to pick it up, or to command your lost iPhone to perform a full erasure of everything in it.
POSB (for iOS)
Lets you access your bank account on the go.
Note: You still need the iBanking keychain token to use this software.
(more to come soon...)
